Miley Cyrus photo to take down $1 billion franchise

Miley Cyrus

Thinking she was doing an “artsy” photo shoot, Miley Cyrus was tricked into posing topless for the Vanity Fair magazine. And before you go off to Google to search for an uncensored pic, hint: there’s nothing to see. If she should know anything though, it’s not to spike controversy by selling sex in America. Not when you are Janet Jackson and certainly not when you are Hannah Montana, adored by millions of children in your country.

Last month, the president of entertainment for Disney was quoted saying, “For Miley Cyrus to be a ‘good girl’ is now a business decision for her. Parents have invested in her a godliness. If she violates that trust, she won’t get it back.

But will this really threaten the ‘Hannah Montana’ franchise, which is expected to make $1 billion this year alone? I think not. Last year, pictures of Vanessa Hudgens hit the net and Disney didn’t seem to mind that much back then. You had probably forgotten about it too, until I told you just now.

GTA IV leads in game industry takeover

Spielberg Gaming

Hollywood fears the release of Grand Theft Auto IV tomorrow. And they should. The somewhat controversial game is set for $1 billion in sales the first week. Yes, that’s a ‘b,’ no typo. It will instantly make GTA the biggest entertainment franchise ever.

The game does well with young males and that’s the same target audience a movie like ‘Iron Man’ has. Last year, film Executives blamed the ‘Halo 3′ launch for the relatively low opening of ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ with Ben Stiller. And with the amount of blockbusters this summer, Hollywood doesn’t seem to be waiting for another game like that to compete for their money.

In a recent Financial Times article, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello said that there’s “more interest today from Hollywood to make movies out of our games than there is interest in our industry to make games out of their movies. There’s a big reset happening now. The rate of change in this industry is massive.

So this is why Spielberg is making games nowadays.
