Post weekend drop

Ok, ‘Iron Man’ had an amazing weekend, but how hard was the usual drop after the weekend. Was it a bad one or was it a drop with potential? This is what the two new released movies did in and after the weekend:

‘Iron Man’:
Saturday and Sunday: $63,384,307 million
Monday and Tuesday: $13,440,352 million
Drop: 78.8%

‘Made of Honor’:
Saturday and Sunday: $9,201,889 million
Monday and Tuesday: $1,942,357 million
Drop: 78.9%

Interestingly, while both in a very different genre, they had almost exactly the same drop rate. And it was quite a steep one at that. For example, ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ only had 71.7% drop. ‘Street Kings,’ with a comparable audience to ‘Iron Man,’ only had a 74.8% drop. Even ‘Baby Mama’ had a smaller drop than both movies this weekend.

What can we conclude from all these numbers? Well, as this is the first week we’re doing this experiment, let me first say this isn’t exact science — yet. By doing this every week, we will be able to get more info out of these simple numbers. But for now, it seems like ‘Iron Man’ isn’t as hot these days as it was this weekend. Beating ‘Made of Honor’ with a 0.1% less of a drop isn’t something to be proud of. With the competition right around the corner, ‘Iron Man’ could die off a little sooner than expected. We’ll have a better view on this in our ‘weekend roundup’ this Friday.
