Weekly roundup

1. Iron Man: $64,650,994 ($186 million budget, second week)
2. What Happens in Vegas: $26,457,642 ($35 million budget)
3. Speed Racer: $22,166,614 ($100 million budget)

Weekly roundup graph

Who would you say the winner is? ‘Iron Man,’ which made a little more than half of what it did last week. Or ‘What Happens in Vegas,’ which grossed 75% of its budget in its opening week?

One thing is for sure at least, ‘Speed Racer’ is now definitely on its way out. After a drop of 84% after the weekend, the movie made just $800,000 yesterday. That’s less than 1/6th of what ‘Iron Man’ did the week after its release. And ‘Speed Racer’ is rumored to have about the same budget as ‘Iron Man.’

‘Iron Man’ is currently down to $3,000,000 during working days, from $6,000,000 last week. I’ve said it before, but I think our superhero will have its last good box office result with ‘Prince Caspian’ this weekend. After that it will be all about Dr. Henry Jones, according to the ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ tracking numbers.

I’d say ‘What Happens in Vegas’ is the big winner this week. It did not only make 75% of its budget in the first couple of days, it also beat ‘Iron Man’ in several territories outside the US. Currently down to $1.5 million yesterday, I think it’s safe to say this romance can do some good numbers for another week. Its only competition is ‘Made of Honor,’ which made $200,000 less than ‘Speed Racer’ yesterday. How embarrassing would it have been if they’d made a couple of hundred more and pushed ‘Speed Racer’ to the fourth place?

Next week will be Prince Caspian’s week, who will do well over $65 million according to the ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ tracking numbers.
