The post-weekend box office drop

O, that’s going to hurt. But the box office drops actually weren’t that bad this week. Here are the numbers.
1. What Happens in Vegas
Saturday and Sunday: $9,292,335 million
Monday and Tuesday: $2,759,458 million
Drop: 70%
2. Iron Man
Saturday and Sunday: $23,179,757 million
Monday and Tuesday: $5,292,110 million
Drop: 77%
3. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Saturday and Sunday: $35,637,062 million
Monday and Tuesday: $7,978,137 million
Drop: 78%
Newcomer ‘Prince Caspian’ had the biggest drop, but the drop was merely bigger than the one ‘Iron Man’ saw. With a 77.61% drop, ‘Prince Caspian’ ranks pretty low on our self-invented drop chart. But it’s still a lot better than ‘Speed Racer,’ which had a drop of 84% last week. Or should I say smack? It’s no surprise the movie is nowhere to be seen on this week’s chart. ‘Speed Racer’ made under $500,000 yesterday, beating the romance ‘Made of Honor’ by less than $20,000!
Iron Man’s landing is getting a little softer, but the fall is still pretty steep. The first week it fell 80.15%, followed by 78.8% last week and this week it did a little better with 77.17%.
‘What Happens in Vegas’ is yet again the winner. Although ‘Indiana Jones 4′ will push it to the fourth place for sure, it will keep doing some good numbers. Last week it dropped by a low 74% and this week it fell just 70%. That’s the lowest number we saw for the movies we tracked to date. Which aren’t that many, but still, this cheap comedy is beating all of them.
It’s the third time we have to declare Cameron Diaz’ movie the winner. We already said it in our weekly roundup, but if you considering it only cost $35 million to produce, ‘What Happens in Vegas’ is a pretty big hit. It made over $100 million worldwide in less than two weeks. Now we are definitely not able to get rid of that Kutcher.
