We already saw the ‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ tracking numbers earlier today. But how about that other comedy, ‘Kung Fu Panda’? Well, the DreamWorks animation is looking at a better opening than Adam Sandler, that’s for sure. Tracking indicates an opening somewhere around $60 million.

First Choice: 10% among 12-16 year olds

If we compare these to the similar ‘Ratatouille’ last year, we see ‘Kung Fu Panda’ beating the cooking rat in a hat in almost every department. And ‘Ratatouille’ opened with $47 million last year.

Needless to say, ‘Kung Fu Panda’ will have a decent opening. Nothing spectacular, but the highest opening gross for an animated non-sequel is just $70.5 million by Disney’s ‘The Incredibles’ in 2004. It’s not likely the fighting panda with Jack Black’s voice will top that.
