We’re back with the ‘post-weekend drop,’ where we compare the weekend box office with the days after. This way we get an indication of the staying power of the movies. We’ve got some interesting numbers this time, so let’s dive in!

1. Sex and the City: The Movie
Saturday and Sunday: $30,267,352 million
Monday and Tuesday: $11,017,834 million
Drop: 63.6%

2. The Strangers
Saturday and Sunday: $13,304,070 million
Monday and Tuesday: $4,105,890 million
Drop: 69.1%

3. Indiana Jones 4
Saturday and Sunday: $32,534,337 million
Monday and Tuesday: $7,389,954 million
Drop: 77.3%

Before this week, ‘What Happens in Vegas’ had the number one spot on our self-invented drop chart. It had the lowest drop in its second week after release, a drop of just 70.3%. Normally a post-weekend drop is between 70-80%, with the 84% drop by ‘Speed Racer’ as an extreme. But this week we have two new top player. ‘Sex and the City,’ with an amazingly light drop of just 63.6%. And ‘The Strangers,’ dropping 69.1%.

What do these numbers tell us. Well, for one, ‘Sex and the City’ will definitely still be in the top three the coming weekend. And secondly, while ‘The Strangers’ will be pushed out by ‘Zohan’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ it will still do some good numbers the coming week. Probably staying well above the $1 million during week days.

We can consider the 77.3% drop by ‘Indiana Jones 4′ as normal. It’s comparable to the drop ‘Iron Man’ made in its third week. It can still do some mild numbers the coming week, but the old man is starting to doze off.

Next week we’ll see how the comedies will hold up. ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ did pretty well last month, but can ‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ do the same?
