Zohan tracking

Adam Sandler’s ‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ is coming up this weekend, in case you forgot. He’s always good for a decent opening, but between all the blockbusters this summer you never know. I don’t have the feeling this one has a lot of buzz on the interwebs. It doesn’t have a full-fletched marketing campaign like ‘The Dark Knight.’ Of course it’s not as expensive, with its $75 million budget. But with all those virals, you’d expecting more than just the usual TV trailer.

In any case, let’s have a look at the numbers. Its main demographic is younger males, naturally. And those are tracking well for the Sandler vehicle.

You Don’t Mess with the Zohan

First Choice: 18% among males 12-16 years
First Choice: 19% among males under 25

If we compare this to the similar ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry’ from last year, we see Zohan’s tracking numbers indicate a strong box office opening this weekend.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

First Choice: 11% among males 12-16 years
First Choice: 11% among males under 25

So Sandler’s ‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ isn’t doing that bad after all. ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry’ opened with $34.2 million last year, so for Zohan we’re looking at a minimum of $40 million.
