Weekly roundup

1. Sex and the City: $77,958,978 ($65 million budget)
2. Indiana Jones 4: $59,339,836 ($185 million budget, second week)
3. The Strangers: $28,356,800 ($9 million budget)

Weekly roundup graph

It might have looked like ‘Sex and the City’ was a one day wonder, but as we already expected in our ‘post-weekend drop,’ it had a strong week overall. All the top 3 movies did well, but I have to give some extra credit to ‘The Strangers.’ The thriller almost made $30 million, with a budget of just $9 million. Grossing 315% of your budget in a time with multiple big budget blockbusters is impressive to say the least.

‘Indiana Jones 4′ had a decent second week, doing over 30% of its budget. And as you can see above, the numbers went up from Monday when it only did $3.5 million. For some worldwide totals, you can go here.

As I said, ‘Sex and the City’ is doing really well for its genre. By grossing about 120% of its budget, it’s doing better than most movies with a comparable production budget. Actually, it even did better than the $200 million ‘Prince Caspian’ in its first week.

Next week we’ll have the full battle between Adam Sandler and Jack Black. I’ll be posting the first numbers in a couple of minutes.
