Hancock Money Face

Another batch of +$100 million budget movies is coming up. This week we’ll see ‘Wall-e,’ the highly anticipated new $120 million Pixar animation. ‘Wanted,’ the teen-oriented, action driven, testosterone powered, Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy featuring $65 million spy movie. And the week after, anti-hero, rehab going and $150 million ‘Hancock’ will storm theaters early July 1st.

Tracking for ‘Wall-e’ is good. Compared to ‘Ratatouille’ last year:

Awareness: 84% (compared to 82% for ‘Ratatouille’)
Definite Interest
: 41% (to 38% for ‘Ratatouille’)
First choice: 10% (to 8% for ‘Ratatouille’)

Very early box office estimates would put ‘Wall-e’ around a $70 million opening weekend.

‘Wanted’ tracking numbers are fairly decent. Compared to ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘Iron Man’:

Awareness: 75% (compared to 95% for ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ 82% for ‘Iron Man’)
Definite Interest
: 40% (to 33% for ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ 50% for ‘Iron Man’)
First choice: 5% (to 8% for ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ 20% for ‘Iron Man’)

At this point ‘Wanted’ is looking to open somewhere around $35 million at the box office.

It’s another week before ‘Hancock’ is coming out (early), but tracking numbers are already pretty amazing:

Awareness: 85%
Definite Interest
: 52%
First choice: 16%

Keep in mind these are tracking numbers other box office hits would show the week of release. With Will Smith’s usual worldwide tour, ‘Hancock’ will open great and far above $100 million.

Good numbers overall. The summer season is getting better and better. Not only for us the audience, but I’m getting the feeling the studios aren’t doing that bad either.
