Chris Wedge, the creator of ‘Ice Age,’ is getting ready to take on the children’s book ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret.’ The live-action film will be written by John Logan, responsible for ‘The Aviator,’ ‘The Last Samurai’ and ‘Sweeney Todd.’ The last one might have made the connection between him and producer Infinitum Nihil, Johnny Depp’s company.
‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ is a fairly new book, first released in January 2007. It centers around an orphaned boy that secretly lives between the walls of a train station in Paris. The bestseller was praised by its original combination of text and pictures. With about 300 illustrations it depends equally on words as it does on pictures.
Infinitum Nihil is targeting the Fall to start production.

In 1978, director Roman Polanski fled from the US after pleading guilty to statutory rape of a thirteen year old girl. And this is what he will be remembered for, not for his movies. ThinkFilm wants to take a deeper look at this story and has picked up the documentary ‘Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired.’
The documentary focuses on the trial and Polanski’s fleeing and got a lot of positive feedback at the Sundance Film Festival. It even had a little run for an Oscar. The president of ThinkFilm, Mark Urman, worked with Polanski for 6 years during the nineties and helped creating the movie.
ThinkFilm will release ‘Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired’ in theaters July 11 and on DVD late fall.

‘Burn After Reading’ will open the 65th Venice Film Festival August 27.
