Directors: Laurence Fishburne ‘The Alchemist’

Actor Laurence Fishburne will direct his second feature called ‘The Alchemist’ next summer. The $60 million project is based on the book by Paulo Coelho, which sold over 65 million copies in 150 territories. Harvey Weinstein’s Weinstein Co. picked up all the rights earlier this year, while the movie had been in development at Warner Bros. for years.

This is one of those great turnaround situations. The book means so much to people on a spiritual level, and there is an exciting love story, action,” Weinstein said.

No, it wouldn’t be a Weinstein movie without some proper action.

Favreau still not signed for ‘Iron Man 2′

Jon Favreau Iron Man

Jon Favreau had some interesting remarks about ‘Iron Man 2′ on the Howard Stern show. First Stern managed to pull out the fact Jon Favreau got $4 million for directing ‘Iron Man’ plus a percentage of the movies’ profit. And secondly, Favreau still hasn’t signed on for part two. None of the actors have been officially confirmed either.

They’ve all signed for three but it doesn’t work that way,” Favreau said. When a movie beats all expectations, contracts don’t mather anymore according to Favreau. He is basically saying the deals made before ‘Iron Man’ are now old, because the movie is making loads of money. He’s right, you don’t want to piss off Robert Downey Jr. at this point. But a contract is a contract. Even Edward Norton had to do ‘The Italian Job’ after signing a three picture deal before. Maybe Favreau is also looking for a bigger paycheck himself?

Chat about hobbits with Jackson and Del Toro

Peter Jackson Del Toro Are Hobbits

I know you love cinema, why else would you be here? Well, here’s a cool opportunity you might want to join in on. Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro will be answering some questions about ‘The Hobbit’ for a full hour Saturday next week — or Sunday, depending on where you live. The ‘party’ will take place at Weta Holics, with both directors answering pre-selected and live questions.

I love it when ‘big’ people keep connected with their audience. It shows how they care about the fans and don’t take themselves too seriously. The internet is a great medium to do this. You might get a lot of dirt if you put up your own website and answer your own emails as a ‘Hollywood star.’ But it will at least keep you grounded. The opposite of what happened to someone like Tom Cruise, who mostly had nodding donkeys around him.
