Actors: Alec Baldwin joins ‘Madagascar 2′ cast

Madagascar Alec Baldwin

‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’ is completing its cast. No, ‘Kung Fu Panda’ isn’t the only animation DreamWorks is releasing this year. And this one might even be bigger. We already saw how they signed a deal with IMAX to release the movie worldwide, but more deals are in the making. Bernie Mac and Alec Baldwin just signed for two of the voices. They join Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer.

I didn’t actually know this, but ‘Madagascar’ was a wild success in 2005. It made just under $200 million in the US, but topped that with $340 million overseas. A $533 worldwide gross certainly justifies the sequel (from a business standpoint), which will hit theaters November 7.

Doesn’t that make you dizzy? It’s the word in Hollywood these days: 3-D. Just yesterday we talked about how ‘Dawn of the Dead’ was getting a 3-D remake and now Regal Cinemas is announcing to upgrade 1,500 screens to display 3-D. The movie chain is certainly busy with new technology. Two weeks ago they announced their renewed support for IMAX.

RealD will provide the technology, bringing the total to more than 3,500 RealD screens. With about 25% of Regal Cinemas’ screens being able to display the 3-D pictures. Hopefully this brings Jeffrey Katzenberg a little closer to his goal for the ‘Monsters vs. Aliens‘ movie.
