Favreau still not signed for ‘Iron Man 2′

Jon Favreau had some interesting remarks about ‘Iron Man 2′ on the Howard Stern show. First Stern managed to pull out the fact Jon Favreau got $4 million for directing ‘Iron Man’ plus a percentage of the movies’ profit. And secondly, Favreau still hasn’t signed on for part two. None of the actors have been officially confirmed either.

They’ve all signed for three but it doesn’t work that way,” Favreau said. When a movie beats all expectations, contracts don’t mather anymore according to Favreau. He is basically saying the deals made before ‘Iron Man’ are now old, because the movie is making loads of money. He’s right, you don’t want to piss off Robert Downey Jr. at this point. But a contract is a contract. Even Edward Norton had to do ‘The Italian Job’ after signing a three picture deal before. Maybe Favreau is also looking for a bigger paycheck himself?

‘Iron Man’: the week after

Was the movie really that good or did ‘Iron Man’ just wake everybody up after all those slow weeks? Whatever the reason is, the balls are rolling and this is what came out of the success of ‘Iron Man.’

First, the confirmed sequel. Set for release in 2010, but who is involved? Robert Downey Jr. has been confirmed to be under contract for another film, but Jon Favreau hasn’t signed yet. “We’ve been speaking informally about it, and in concept we would all love to work together again. But I found out about the announcement last night, so it’s not something that — we would definitely love to collaborate more with the sequel,” Favrau told EW. Those are some careful words. Apparently Jon Favreau didn’t know about the confirmation of ‘Iron Man 2′ until Marvel announced it last Monday. You would think a man like him shouldn’t have to find out on the news.

More official: ‘Iron Man 2′ in 2010

Iron Man 2

The only thing we didn’t have was an official word from Marvel, but now we have it. ‘Iron Man 2′ has been confirmed for April 30, 2010. Jon Favreau and his crew already hinted at how they’d like to do a sequel. They said it in like every other interview last week. If it wasn’t for the possible actors’ strike, they might have already been working on it. But Marvel didn’t want to take any risks by setting the release date for next summer.

Marvel Entertainment stock jumped almost 10% as we expected, but settled to around 7.5% later in the day. This while the market was down overall, mostly caused by the failed Yahoo deal and concerns about mortgage lender Countrywide’s suitor backing out as well.

In 2006, Marvel Entertainment started raising $525 million to produce its own movies. Before that it was only licensing its characters, like ‘Spider-man’ to Sony. Their second film will be ‘The Incredible Hulk’ in June and the third will be the just announced ‘Iron Man’ sequel. Marvel also announced their fourth feature called ‘Thor,’ which is planned for June 4, 2010. They sure like their summer season.
