Hollywood grandpas Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman did it again. After an mildly impressive worldwide gross of $173 mill, the oldies are topping both the sales and rental chart in the US.
Again we sadly don’t have actual numbers, but ‘The Bucket List’ was followed by ‘Jumper’ on both charts. The Doug Liman (‘The Bourne Identity’) movie made $80 mill in the US earlier this year and had a total gross of $221 mill. The good worldwide performance (for its $85 million budget) recently justified talks about a sequel, although nothing has been planned yet.
‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ debuted at number 4 and ‘John Adams’ by HBO at 5.

 | | Matt Damon can start building some muscles again, since he signed for the rugby movie ‘Human Factor.’ Or maybe he still has them from doing three ‘The Bourne Identity’ movies, I don’t know.
Damon joins Morgan Freeman in the new Warner Bros. movie by Clint Eastwood. The script is written by Anthony Peckham, who also wrote ‘Don’t Say a Word.’ The story follows Francois Pienaar (Damon) and Nelson Mandela, who created an event for the whites and blacks in South Africa, just after the apartheid.
Shooting will start at the beginning of next year, also in South Africa.

Tommy Lee Jones is serious about his directing career. Actually, he is serious about all his careers. After his fairly successful ‘The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,’ he is now going to direct, produce and star in a new Ernest Hemingway adaptation. He even co-wrote the ‘Islands in the Stream’ script.
‘Islands in the Stream’ was previously adapted by Franklin J. Schaffner in 1977 and got nominated for one Oscar. This time the movie will have a $30 million budget and both Morgan Freeman and John Goodman are in talks to be part of the cast. Shooting starts in Puerto Rico, although not earlier than March 2009.
