I always find it strange when award shows announce who they’ll give an award. Isn’t it supposed to be a surprise? Today MTV said they will give ‘man-child’ Adam Sandler a Generation Award, previously given to Jim Carrey (2006) and Mike Myers (2007). “A 30-something water boy, a brokenhearted `80s wedding singer and a rejected hockey player-turned-pro golfer … now that’s an impressive resume,” MTV president Van Toffler said, like he’s looking to hire Sandler.

He’ll get the precious MTV Movie Award for his “amazing contribution to Hollywood.” It’s probably not a bad promotion for his new $75 million ‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ either, which will be out June 6.

A $1 billion lawsuit against YouTube is threatening people’s exchange of information on the internet, Google Inc. said. The claim was made as a reaction to Viacom Inc., who says YouTube was responsible for “an explosion of copyright infringement.” And YouTube owes them the money for illegally showing material from MTV, Comedy Central and other networks.

Although YouTube got famous for letting people upload any content they wanted, it is true they are working hard to eliminate illegal content these days. Google said their YouTube “goes far beyond its legal obligations in assisting content owners to protect their works.” And Viacom wants to hold carriers and providers responsible for what people share, which “threatens the way hundreds of millions of people legitimately exchange information, news, entertainment and political and artistic expression.” It seems like Google wants to turn this into a net neutrality debate.

Not the most prestige in the business, but the MTV Movie Awards can still help you to get a couple of extra customers for your movie. And that’s why all the summer blockbusters will probably be at the ceremony to ‘pimp’ their movie next month, June 1. Expected to win big are ‘Superbad’ with 5 nominations and ‘Juno’ with 4.
