The upcoming weekend in quotes

Prince Caspian Tiger

This weekend is a little less crowded, with just one new movie to speak of. So let’s delve into this one a little deeper and see what the critics have to say.

‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ is having a much better reception than ‘Speed Racer’ and ‘What Happens in Vegas’ had last week. A metacritic.com score of 6.2 is pretty good, considering there are some very harsh critics out there.

‘Indiana Jones’ tracking indicates HIGH opening

May 13th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Indiana Jones Cash

As if our friend Steve Mason heard our call for some early ‘Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ tracking numbers, here are the first numbers 9 days before its box office release.

Un-Aided Awareness: 15%
Definite Interest: 63%
First Choice: 28%

Now let’s compare them to the ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ tracking numbers from yesterday — keep in mind this movie is releasing this week and should relatively track higher.

Un-Aided Awareness: 11% (-4)
Definite Interest: 42% (-21)
First Choice: 14% (-14)

As you can see, tracking numbers for ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ are high overall. It will likely be the biggest opening this year thus far. I’m not sure about it having a $160+ million weekend, but it’s certainly pushing the movie into the $150 million direction. A number that will presumably make Steven Spielberg a very happy man.
