Lightweight Will Ferrell vehicle ‘Semi-Pro’ was the number one rental this week. And while it made just $33.5 mill at the domestic box office, Ferrell also topped the DVD sales chart.
The low-rated comedy ‘Meet the Spartans’ came in second in rentals. The spoof movie was mildly more successful at the domestic box office, but did $35 more than ‘Semi-Pro’ overseas. Sadly, no rental box office numbers were provided this week.
The top seller of the last two weeks, ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets,’ came in second in sales.

Nicolas Cage’s biggest movie yet came in at number one for both sales and rentals last week. ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets’ grossed over $450 million at the worldwide box office and its grabbing a couple more million in stores now. It pushed last week’s top rental ‘Mad Money’ to the second place, which made another $6.1 million. ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets’ took in an estimated $8.7 million.
But Disney’s adventure doesn’t end there. ‘National Treasure’ topped the Blu-ray and DVD sales charts too. ‘National Treasure: Book of Secrets’ was the number one Blu-ray, ‘National Treasure’ (the first movie) was number two and they shared the third place with a two-pack.
Indy also makes an appearance. The first three ‘Indiana Jones’ movies took the second to fourth place in the DVD chart. And I reckon most of the viewers went to the fourth installment after that.

Apparently some people would disagree if a say ‘Untraceable’ is not worth your popcorn. Sony Pictures’ $35 million crime thriller wasn’t a major success in theaters. It grossed $28 million domestically and managed to add another $22 million overseas. But it did make the number one spot in DVD sales last week, beating the $15 million ‘The Great Debaters’ with Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker.
‘Untraceable’ came in second for rentals, doing $6.9 million. The $22 million Diane Keaton comedy ‘Mad Money’ came in first, with $7.3 million in rentals. The number one from last week, ‘P.S. I Love You,’ added another $5.9 million in rentals, making a total of $13.1 million. And lastly, the first ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ movie topped the Blu-ray chart, with ‘Untraceable’ coming in second. All those numbers are making me dizzy.
