There have been three ‘The Box Office News’ shows the last two weeks, but I’ve decided to cut it back to two shows - one Saturday and one Monday. At the time it seems to be overkill to do three, since we are only seeing some minor releases. But I might put in an extra show when the bigger movies see the light of day.

I do however, have the projections for the weekend. ‘Max Payne’ will definitely win the weekend, but reviews haven’t been good. The best review thus far on metacritic is from the Seattle Post saying it’s “A dumb film with a great conceptual hook from a director who visualizes better than he dramatizes.

Industry tracking for ‘Max Payne’ indicates a shallow opening around $25 million. The other newcomer, biopic ‘W.’ about George W. Bush, isn’t expected to make headlines either. The movie is projected to barely break the $10 million barrier, which is might actually be good if you consider how disliked the guy is.

‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ is expected to make around $10 million too, with ‘Body of Lies’ coming in 4th with $7.5 million. The new teen comedy ‘Sex Drive’ doesn’t seem to have enough buzz. Probably why Summit Entertainment released the first 10 minutes online. Tracking indicates a weekend total under $5 million.

And lastly, family movie ‘The Secret Life of Bees,’ with Dakota Fanning, will come in around $6 million.

More on all these movies in tomorrow’s show!
