This week’s box office roundupMay 10th, 2008 at 11:40 am

Iron Man: $123,134,395 ($186 million budget)
Made of Honor: $18,675,171 ($40 million budget)
Baby Mama: $12,613,110 ($30 million budget, second week)

A little later because of our server outage, but here’s the weekly roundup for the first week of ‘Iron Man.’
As expected ‘Harold & Kumar 2′ didn’t make the top 3 in its second week, but ‘Baby Mama’ hold up nicely with another $12.6 million in its second week. That’s 42% of its budget and makes to total go well above the $30 million budget.

This week’s box office roundupMay 2nd, 2008 at 10:15 pm

Baby Mama: $21,997,470 ($30 million budget)
Harold & Kumar 2: $19,254,964 ($12 million budget)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall: $14,609,525 ($30 million budget, second week)

We’re back with our weekly box office roundup. Who won? It depends on how you see it. ‘Baby Mama’ did $3 million more than ‘Harold & Kumar 2,’ but only managed to make 73% of its budget. ‘Harold & Kumar 2′ however, made 160% (!) of its costs. Making it profitable in its first week, not considering any marketing costs.
We can clearly see how ‘Harold & Kumar 2′ took a dive after its launch though, so I wouldn’t expect it to have as much legs as ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ has. We already noted it last week, when ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ slowly took over from ‘The Forbidden Kingdom,’ and this week proves Marshall will stick around a little longer. It still made 50% of its budget, while Kumar is probably not making next week’s top 3.
‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ is slowly getting out too. It made $550,000 on Thursday and isn’t expected to do much next week.
So let’s see what the first weeks of summer box office violence will bring, starting with ‘Iron Man’ next week. From then on, all hell will break loose!
This week’s box office roundupApril 25th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Forbidden Kingdom: $27,025,134 ($70 million budget)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall: $24,062,895 ($30 million budget)
Prom Night: $10,251,048 ($20 million budget, second week)

Every week we take a look at how the top three movies did at the box office, from Friday to Thursday. This week clearly started with the domination of ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ in the weekend. ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ however, slowly took over and is definitely showing more legs. It’s expected to have another good weekend, since its only competition is ‘Baby Mama,’ mainly targeted at a younger audience.
‘88 Minutes’ with Al Pacino didn’t manage to make the third spot, bringing in just $9 million behind ‘Prom Night.’ The horror had another good week, making half of what it did the week before, where maybe a bigger drop was expected. This week it still made over 50% of its budget.
‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ had the best budget/box office ratio, bringing in 80% of its budget. ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ managed to only take a little under 40%, but it’s less dependent on the US market, releasing in Hong Kong this week.
